ourplace

8 min read

Since 1996 Ourplace remains solvent in the collapse of the music industry at large. We enjoy laughter, good times and the company of friends.
By the time we drop the next music, a significant share of you will have already stopped caring.

Ourplace is and always will be our “Go back to” born out of nessesity in 96’ to give people a complete understanding on how important independent DIY ownership is. This apply's to whatever we do in our lifes. We cant fade the norm. Besides releasing underground hiphop since the early ninetees N founded and operates several imprints, including Limited item lovers, Wowflutter and Younger at heart. A few years ago something extraordinary happened. As we got older I realised I always want to control and innovate the flight from the ground up, but never wanted to be a pilot and that seemed largely unchanged since the days of the Akai S1000, HotSyaoshs, Duvel, anxiety and beedies. That’s when it hit me. Ourplace wasn’t just our ourplace anymore. Ourplace is everybody’s place and belonges to the likeminded. Fortunately we tapped into the universal truths of lot’s who now do it themselves. Yes, we are fucked, we are flawed, we are both confused and cocksure, and we simultaneously want anarchy and order. WE ARE LUCKY! We grew up with absolutely no tools to navigate this harsh and crazy world and mostlikely, we’d burn down everything around us in an attempt to figure it out.

The bowl was small, but big enough for us. It was home. A groovy sphere where on most days samples would alight on the turntable with the effort of the hunt. It was safe. No big fish to eat little fish, no currents to sweep away; a couple of litres of studio tranquillity sitting on an old Atari, S1000 and a S1000PB plus Mackie VLZ.

Inside this world we swam around and around. BOBBING TO THE SURFACE TO GULP THE OTHER HIPHOP OUTSIDE THE BOWL.

OF COURSE OUR NAME ISN’T REALLY INDEPTH. NO ONE HAD BOTHERED TO NAME US. WE ARE JUST A BAND, BUT ANY CREATURE WITHOUT AN IDENTITY SEEMS WRONG SOMEHOW

- AT LEAST IT DOES TO US. NOT TO EVERYONE THOUGH. We didn’t notice the change at first. There was nothing to see, no obvious modification to the hiphop world. The first we, or it could have been us (we are so hard to manage) felt of our impeding death was a tingling in our lip service and a soreness around our already bulging sampling techniques. The scene smelled wrong, it tasted wrong too. It felt like hiphop, it looked like hiphop, but it hurt and burnt. We floated to the surface then sank down again, listing to one side as the change began to take effect. Our music flipped and then flipped once more as we sank to the bottom where we lay panting.

Consider the needs of your audience when selecting the type size: smaller type is harder to read for seniors, children and visually impaired people. Set in Spectral

Our beats worked hard in a last desperate attempt to survive as we flew to the surface and failed to leap out of the scene. Whatever was eating into our FB bandpage had won. We turned upside down on the surface before sinking once more to the bottom where we settled like a lump of 2pacalypse now. If we’d only known we was alive, we may have felt our own death. But did we really have any understanding of our own mortality?

Continued from part1

After a while we rose again to float on the surface like some very unsatisfactory resurrection for a very small hiphop Jesus. It was two days before anyone noticed us rotting on the surface, by which time our mid 90 Helly Hansen shine had dulled to grey, our ideas had become 2good2betrue and all signs of our small life had dispersed into the poisoned hiphop scene. The smell of the bleach was hardly noticeable now, the only odour dead b-boys. Of course no one noticed and no one cared, and that was only part of the problem with this particular no one.

After no one cried at our passing we were unceremoniously emptied into a different music scene, for real this time, but flushed away as if we had never existed. Just a small life, in a small world, doing big things to pass the time (Couchcareer), so small it shouldn’t have had any impact on anything at all. But sometimes it’s the nothings that start the ball rolling and before you know it there’s an avalanche on its way.

And so the death of us in 97 became the start of a big, big future. Of course not for inDepth, just for no one really.

BIOGRAPHY

inDepth is definitely an ever evolving hiphop group! Started out in the late 90’s by Syah and N(obody). N(obody) known for his work with his user-friendly experimental and controversial super group; N&Blatta. Syah you may know as one half of the 90’s classic and extremely gifted group; Sources of specialment.
Syah and N, teamed up to create music which could best be explained as hiphop.

Now here’s the tough part;
They attempt to create relevant social metaphorical and also psychological associations between natural language & communication and

the more abstract based theories. So whether it manifest itself in the form of rhymes, poetry, drums, choppin, sampling, sound, music, programming or a yet to be discovered medium, it’s all based on: hiphop, language, technology, culture, love and living life. Whether the meaning or the details of the music is initially evident to the listener does not concern InDepth. They try to create direct links from the dialogue in your ears through the visualisation in your mind.
Among the most experimental, and prolific, individuals to spawn from the old continent. InDepth gives the listener a separate file in this multi-styled hiphop culture.

Artists InDepth worked with: Eligh, Arata, Bfap, Luckyiam, Asop, Murs, Moonrocks (Nebulus, Bicasso), Debbie, Blatta, Cee!!!, DJ Moves, Fat chicano, Neoteric, Rhek, D-vice, the Mole, Terms, Escape Artists, Jaeda, Cavemen Speak, Stacs of Stamina, Marcus Graap, Speeddial 7, Lroneous, Bluebird, Smooth Cee, KtheI???, Gel Roc, Amnesia, Name Science = Sach (the Nonce/ GPAC) and Inoe Oner (GPAC) etc.
